I am an entrepreneur and attorney with 15 years of experience. I was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 2004, and am also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. I am also admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.

My practice focuses generally on entrepreneurship and social justice through the provision of legal advice and business services.  I am also an experienced litigator in both federal and state courts.  I facilitate small business development, assist with the formation and legal needs of non-profit organizations, and have extensive experience handling employment and consumer cases, class action litigation, personal injury claims, and appeals on the state and federal level.  In 2015, I was appointed to the panel of attorneys selected to represent individuals on criminal appeals before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals under the Criminal Justice Act, and I have since developed a specialty in this area. I am a certified mediator listed as an Approved General Civil Mediator on the Kentucky Court of Justice Mediation Roster, and have mediated both civil and criminal matters.

Engagement in the community is very important to me, both professionally and personally.  I am a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Fayette County Bar Association. I am also a Founding Fellow of the Fayette County Bar Foundation, which is the charitable giving arm of the Fayette County Bar Association that raises and distributes charitable funds for law-related projects and education.  I am the Chair of the labor and employment law section of the Kentucky Bar Association, and lecture several times a year on employment-related topics. Through my membership in the Central Kentucky Inns of Court I work to foster collegiality within the legal profession and to serve the community via outreach programs.  I am also a member of the NORML Legal Committee – I am compelled by social justice and economic development concerns to support efforts toward the legalization and regulation of cannabis.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Women Writers Conference, and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Bluegrass Trust for Historic Preservation and on former Lexington Mayor Jim Gray’s economic development task force. In 2009, I was featured as one of Lexington’s Leading Women in business in the Business Lexington publication. In 2011, I co-founded Lexington’s annual street art festival PRHBTN, an organization that has facilitated the installation of dozens of large-scale murals by world-renowned artists throughout Lexington. In 2014, the Downtown Lexington Corporation presented PRHBTN with the Smiley Pete Award, which is given annually to the organization that has the greatest impact on how people feel about Downtown Lexington.

I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. I received my Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Kentucky College of Law, in 2003, where I was admitted to the prestigious Order of the Coif, graduated second in my class, was awarded the Faculty Cup (most outstanding graduate), and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Kentucky Law Review.

Following law school, I served as law clerk to the Honorable Karl Forester, then Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. I later worked in the Labor & Employment Practice Group at Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP. I started a solo practice in 2007, and have enjoyed an Of-Counsel relationship with The Getty Law Group since that time. The Winters Law Group LLC, a boutique practice with a unique outlook and method of operation focused on keeping overhead low and passing on the savings to our clients, was launched in 2019.

Community involvement and helping others through my legal work are my core values. I believe I have the experience and knowledge necessary to meet your needs.
